Teen pedestrian struck, killed on LA-308 in Cut Off

CUT OFF, LA – An 18-year-old man died on Tuesday night after a vehicle hit him while he walked in the southbound lane of a Lafourche Parish highway, WGNO reports.

Police say the accident happened just after 11:00 p.m. on LA-308 near Ignace Lane. A 2008 GMC Acadia hit the 18-year-old pedestrian before veering left off of the roadway and colliding with a utility pole.

The pedestrian died after transport to a local hospital. Authorities have identified him as Maurice Scardino of Cut Off.

The driver of the GMC did not sustain any injuries in the crash, and police do not suspect impairment on his part. A voluntary breath sample did not detect any alcohol.

An investigation of the crash is ongoing.
