ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA – A 60-year-old man from New Iberia died after his 18-wheeler crashed along the interstate north of Opelousas on Friday, reports KLFY 10.
Police say the incident happened in the morning on Interstate 49 near mile marker 30.
The preliminary investigation suggests that, for unknown reasons, a northbound 2022 Kenworth 18-wheeler veered east off of the interstate and overturned down an embankment. The force of the collision threw the unrestrained truck driver from the vehicle, and he died at the scene of the accident.
Authorities identified the victim as Harvey Broussard.
A full investigation of the incident is underway.
