ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA – A 59-year-old man died Wednesday after his vehicle ran off the roadway in south St. Landry Parish and landed in Bayou Teche, reports KLFY 10.
Police say the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of LA-103 and Church Road, which is between Opelousas and Leonville.
The preliminary investigation suggests that for unknown reasons, the victim’s northbound Ford F-150 ran through a stop sign at the intersection, left the roadway, and crashed into Bayou Teche.
The pickup truck became fully submerged in the water, and emergency crews were unable to rescue the man before he died.
Authorities identified the victim as Philip Gilyard of Leonville.
