VERMILLION PARISH, LA – A 49-year-old man from Franklinton died when his SUV crashed on a state highway in northeast Vermillion County on Sunday morning, reports Vermillion Today.
Police say the incident happened just after 7:15 a.m. on LA-35 near West Liberty Farm Road. For unknown reasons, the driver of a northbound 2014 Nissan Armada veered off of the highway and flipped after colliding with a bridge rail.
The impact of the collision threw the driver from the vehicle, and he died at the scene of the accident.
Authorities have identified the victim as Larry August Ragas, Jr. They say Ragas was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
