Police Car Hits, Kills Pedestrian in Laplace

LAPLACE, LA – A 45-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a police cruiser on U.S. 61 in Laplace on Thursday, WGNO reports.

Louisiana State Police have identified the pedestrian as Dave Walker. They say Walker attempted to cross U.S. 61 by foot on Thursday night near the intersection of Windsor Street. He was hit by a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, which belonged to a St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver and passenger of the patrol unit did not sustain injuries.

Police do not think the Deputy was impaired but have taken toxicology samples from both parties as part of the ongoing investigation.
