Plaquemines Parish deputy struck by ATV, hospitalized

BELLE CHASSE, LA – A deputy for the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office was seriously injured when an ATV struck him in Belle Chasse on Tuesday, WDSU 6 reports.

The Sheriff’s Office said that multiple deputies were sent to handle reports of several four-wheeler vehicles driving recklessly on the Woodland Highway near the Woodland Bridge. One of the deputies was struck by an ATV around 2:25 a.m. when he exited his vehicle in an attempt to intervene among the ATVs.

The deputy is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police arrested the driver of the ATV and say he will face the charge of attempted murder of a police officer. The driver also sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized.

State police and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the incident.
