Pedestrian killed in Greensburg crash on LA-1043

GREENSBURG, LA – A 22-year-old pedestrian died Tuesday morning after a pickup truck struck him on a state highway in central St. Helena Parish, reports WAFB 9.

Police say the incident happened just after 4:15 a.m. in the northbound lane of LA-1043 near Carl Day Lane, which is not far from the North Helena Fire Station.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was walking along LA-1043 when a Dodge Ram pickup truck struck him.

Authorities identified the victim as Damarius Melvin. He died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries in the collision.

A full investigation is underway.
