Car strikes garbage truck in Jefferson, injuring worker

JEFFERSON, LA – A sanitation worker was hospitalized after a car struck his truck in Jefferson Parish on Monday.

WDSU reports that the crash happened before 9 a.m. at the intersection of River Road and Shrewsbury Court.

Police have identified the driver of the car as 44-year-old May Wen. They say Wen was distracted by a cell phone and rear-ended the garbage truck while the sanitation worker was dumping a load into the back.

The worker sustained serious injuries and lost his leg as a result of the accident.

Wen was arrested for negligence and texting while driving.
