Narrative

AVOYELLES PARISH, LA – Two men died Thursday along a highway in southwest Avoyelles Parish from injures sustained in a head-on collision.

The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on LA-29 near Overbey Road, which is just southwest of Bunkie.

Police say that 63-year-old Shepherd Roy Jr. was driving on the wrong side of LA-29 when his vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle.

Both Roy and the driver of the second vehicle, identified as 75-year-old Robert Johnson, died at the scene.

Authorities say that Roy may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision.
