Narrative
POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA – A 36-year-old woman died Sunday in a wrong-way crash along a highway in Pointe Coupee Parish.
The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on LA-1. Police have not yet provided a cross street or mile marker for the accident.
Authorities say that a southbound 2009 Ford F-150 entered the northbound lanes of the highway and collided head-on with a northbound 2021 Nissan Sentra.
The unrestrained driver of the Nissan, identified as Brittany Hughes, died at the scene of the accident.
Three juvenile passengers from Hughes’ vehicle went to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Medics transported the unrestrained driver of the Ford to the hospital with serious injuries after they were thrown from their vehicle during the collision.
A full investigation is underway.
