Narrative
LAFAYETTE, LA – One driver failed to stop at a stop sign at a junction, leading to a crash with two other vehicles and killing a 63-year-old woman Thursday.
This multi-vehicle wreck happened before 3 p.m. at the South Magnolia Street & Louisiana Avenue junction.
The driver who declined to stop was traveling north on South Magnolia while the second automobile was going east on Louisiana. When both cars collided, one of the drivers then struck a westbound vehicle in Louisiana.
First responders took all occupants to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center for treatment.
The passengers from the third vehicle sustained severe wounds, and one of them — Lisa Barras, a Lafayette resident — succumbed to fatal injuries.
Officials are investigating the events that led up to the crash, so other details have not been reported. Although authorities did confirm that impairment was not a contributing factor.
