HAMMOND, LA – A 35-year-old woman died after her car collided with a tractor-trailer on I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish on Tuesday morning, The Advocate Reports.
State police say the accident happened around 8 a.m. when a westbound 2004 Nissan Pathfinder crashed into the rear of a 2010 Peterbilt tractor-trailer. The collision occurred near the weigh station on I-12.
Authorities have identified the driver of the Nissan as Jamie Wells of Rayne, LA. They say Wells was unrestrained at the time of the crash. The force of the collision caused the Nissan to overturn, at which point Wells was thrown from the vehicle.
Wells was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained only minor injuries.
Police took a toxicology sample from Wells and will continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
