1 dead when pickup runs stop sign, hits sedan in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, LA – A 27-year-old man died, and three others were hurt when a car crashed into a pickup truck on US-171 in central Desoto Parish Sunday evening, KSLA News 12 reports.

Police say the crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the junction of US-171 and Kyle Porter Road when the driver of an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche on Kyle Porter Road failed to stop at a stop sign before proceeding across US-171. The pickup truck collided with a northbound 2020 Kia Rio on US-171.

The driver of the Kia was unrestrained and died after transport to a hospital in Shreveport. Authorities have identified him as Donte Mack.

The driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche, identified as 54-year-old Arteaetear Franklin, went to an area hospital with non-critical injuries. Two passengers were also hospitalized as a result of the accident.

Police took routine toxicology samples from both drivers, but they do not suspect either driver of impairment. The accident remains under investigation.
