ABBEVILLE, LA – A 64-year-old man died when his tractor was hit from behind by a pick-up truck on US 167 in Vermillion Parish on Saturday, reports KLFY.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a GMC Sierra pickup truck crashed into the rear of a John Deere tractor while both vehicles traveled north on US 167 towards LA 696. The impact of the collision forced the tractor to overturn.
Alvin J. Minnick, Jr., who was driving the tractor without a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident.
Police have identified the driver of the GMC Sierra as 48-year-old Olan Mouton. Mouton was properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries from the accident. He was taken to an area hospital.
Authorities are unsure what caused Mouton’s vehicle to hit the tractor. An investigation is currently underway.
