1 dead in 2-car crash on LA-617 in W Monroe

WEST MONROE, LA – A 77-year-old man died in a two-vehicle collision on Louisiana Highway 617 in Ouachita Parish Thursday afternoon, KTVE reports.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. south of Louisiana Highway 838 in West Monroe when a 2015 Nissan Sentra turned onto LA-617 from a private driveway. The driver of the Nissan failed to yield and entered the path of a southbound 2013 Ford F-250.

Authorities have identified the victim of the crash as Prince Sparks of Monroe. They say he died at the scene even though he had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries in the crash.

State police will continue with a full investigation of the incident.
