1 dead, 3 injured in fiery 2-vehicle collision in Chalmette

CHALMETTE, LA – A 39-year-old woman died, and three other people went to the hospital after a car collided with a dump truck on Monday afternoon in Chalmette.

NOLA reports that the incident happened at 12:40 p.m. in the 2600 block of Paris Road, which is between East Judge Perez Drive and East Morales Street.

The investigation thus far suggests that a northbound Toyota Camry collided with a southbound dump truck on Paris Road when the truck initiated a left turn. The collision caused the dump truck to fall on its side and the Toyota to catch fire.

Officers at the scene extricated two women from the Toyota, and medics transported them to a local hospital. One of the women died from injuries sustained in the accident. The other woman sustained critical injuries. A 5-year-old passenger from the Toyota was also hospitalized. Police said he was in stable condition.

Medics also transported the 71-year-old driver of the dump truck to the hospital in stable condition. The extent of his injuries is unclear.

A full investigation of the incident is underway.
